The same man? - William Goodwin
« on: Wednesday 07 March 18 16:11 GMT (UK) »
The photo on the left is a snip from a Leicestershire Regiment group photo taken in 1914.

The photo on the right is of William Goodwin, b. 1873, who was a lance corporal/corporal in the Leicestershire Regiment at the very beginning of WWI, taken in 1940 at the wedding of one of his daughters.

Do you peeps think they are one and the same man, perhaps?

Thanks
STG

Similar cheekbones but military photo is too indistinct to see. Could you post a bigger photo? Deb

Far to small to make any comparisons.  Please post larger images.

This is about the best I can do.  The 1914 snip is from a large group photo, so the more I zoom in the less distinct the image becomes.

According to his WW1 Attestation Papers, William Goodwin was only 5'3" tall.  He joined the Regiment at the outbreak of WW1 and because of previous service with the Royal Berkshire Regiment, was immediately promoted to L/Cpl and then Cpl.  I've taken a wider snip of the 1914 photo, so that you can see the size of the man in relation to the two men he's sitting between.  This is another reason for wondering if he and William are one and the same.

Thanks

Hard to tell how tall the second man is with nothing to compare him with.  :-\   ;)

Military snip still too small to judge really.    :-\

If you mean the 1940 man, then I know he was 5'3".
