This is an image of another cousin with her father taken in 1910 on a beach in Summerland, British Columbia.

The image is not the best & I am hoping someone can improve it just as a B&W finish or if it is possible to add some colouring.

Here's hoping
Keith

I've given it the once over but its very low resolution. The pixels are like house bricks  :) which is a pity because its otherwise a nice pic.

That's excellent Andy considering what you had to work with - I was expecting a "no can do" reply to this one.

Thanks very much for what you have done  :)

Here are my two versions of this lovely photo. As Andy says it is such a pity the quality is not very good.

Both of these are lovely Pat & will make a nice little collection alongside Andy's version.  :)

I am a complete novice when it comes to image quality. Is there anything I could have done to the image to improve it before I posted onto here? Can you tell me in general terms what you need in image quality to work with when colouring?

Hi Keith, I'm afraid you are asking the wrong person here about technical details. All I know is if the photo isn't too pixilated when enlarged, it is easier to restore. I'm afraid I'm not technically minded, but by bumping this up the list, I'm sure the experts will be able to help you.

That's fine Pat. Gadget has put me on the right path. As all of my photos are scanned copies (no originals) they are what they are. I can't improve them - only make them worse! I do have another
photo of Augusta with her father & the rest of the family but from what Gadget tells me it is in no better condition than the one above  :(

Hi Keith

As I suggested in an e-mail, you can't really do very much to improve the resolution of  an image that you've been sent as a scan (of possible a scan).

The only thing is to ask the person who has the original photo if they can scan the photo again at 300-600 dpi with no compress - if possible as a tiff or png image. you can then resize, etc. and save as a jpg, etc.

Think our posts crossed, Keith.

They did - where I can I will contact my photo sources & see if they have any originals & take it from there. Thanks again Gadget
