Royal Navy Admiralty Overseer - description please

Have come across the term Admiralty Overseer in some RN officer records I have recently downloaded from NA.   Would appreciate a description of this position.  Would it be an appointment
towards the end of a RN career?

Not necessarily. These were individuals in the Admiralty's Construction Department and similar sent to factories making equipment for the Royal Navy to oversee the work and ensure it met the Navy's standards.  They would be experienced technical people so would mostly be longer serving people. Search http://www.naval-history.net/ for overseer.

Thanks MaxD for the information and link.  The person I am researching was a Fleet Engineer
sent to Newcastle on Tyne and was later in Portsmouth.  These appointments followed 25 years at
sea with RN circa 1891.
