Civilian burial, Singapore, 1942
« on: Thursday 08 March 18 15:45 GMT (UK) »
The War Graves Commission have a record of the burial of Hugh Young, civilian, aged 50, Malaya, 2nd June 1942. On enquiry for more information they gave me a grave number: 11634 at Bidadari Christian Cemetery, Singapore, but have no other details.
I find that this cemetery was closed in 1972 and cleared between 2001 and 2006.
I have tried the website of BACSA without success.

I would like to know what records might exist in Singapore, while knowing what the war situation was at that time.  I have a family member of that name and age who is unaccounted for, and this is a forlorn hope of linking the two.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

For the record, I have found that the National Archives of Singapore hold a microfilmed copy of the burials register for Bidadari Christian Cemetery which can be inspected on site.

There's a similar query on the Liverpool FHS forum https://www.lswlfhs.org.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16029

There is a project to digitise the Changi civilian registers but it doesn't seem to have been published online yet: https://specialcollections-blog.lib.cam.ac.uk/?p=11086

This could be the digitised internment camp register http://cudl.lib.cam.ac.uk/view/MS-RCMS-00103-00012-00022/1
