Illinois: Henry WESTCOTT, born 1834, Exeter, Devon, UK

Hello,

I wonder if someone can help confirming when and where the above entered the USA.  It would certainly be post-1855.

He was naturalised on 05/03/1879 and he appears in the US Federal Census in 1880, 1900 and 1910. Sadly I am unable to access any of the relevant sources via my Ancestry subscription.   He died in 1915.   He married 22 year old Alice PENNIMAN (born in Rockingham, Vermont) in 1868 and they had 4 children, William (1870), Francis Harriet (1885), Howard (1889) and Charles.   Throughout his life from 1868 onwards he lived with his family in Granville, Putnam, Illinois.   Most of this information I obtained from a Public Member Tree but the "Owner" has not replied to my request so all this information is unverified.

As a guide the tree says "Arrival 1861" 

I thought it said on census how many years in the US but can't see it on the 1880 

One of the later census gives 1861.

1910 census - is the only one that gives an immigration date for him, the 1900 was blank and 1880 doesn't ask that question.

It looks like he's on the 1861 census with his parents.

Oh dear!!!!    You have put the cat amongst the pigeons

The FamilySearch notice of death cites the parents being James WESTCOTT and Sarah SOUTHWOOD, whereas the Public Member Tree that I reviewed and original source documents indicate Richard and Eliza WESTCOTT.   So "my" Henry WESTCOTT certainly did not die on 30/01/1916.  However, the FamilySearch entry confirms his birth as 18/07/1834 the very same as the Tree.   Something is very wrong here

I will now need to post on the RootsChat Gloucestershire Board.
