Railway records for Alfred Potts of Crewe/Shavington
« on: Friday 09 March 18 16:05 GMT (UK) »
Dear forum members, I am planning a visit to Ypres in June to see the graves of my great uncles, Alfred Potts and Robert Sandland who both fell in 1918. I plan to leave a small book with their details in it so I am researching their lives. Alfred was a good porter on Crewe railway station but I do not have any dates for his railway employment. Can anybody help please? Mark Potts.

Is this your Alfred Potts?

Nantwich Guardian 21st June 1918

'Mr and Mrs Potts, 156 Gresty Road Crewe, have received news that their son Gunner Alfred Potts RFA has been killed in action. He was 23 years of age and enlisted in 1914,prior to which he was employed at Crewe Goods Shed.'

National Schools Register says he left school to commence work on 22nd January 1909, doesn't say what work though.

Gives his date of birth as 20th March 1895.
