James Mander 1760-1847
« on: Friday 09 March 18 23:43 GMT (UK) »
Any suggestions on finding out further information on this man who is possibly connected to my family.
1841 Census has James Mander age 80 Lock Keeper at Wootton Wawen.
I believe he died at Orchard, Warwick, and was buried at St Mary 14 Nov 1847

I have John Mander boatman born ~1810 married Maria Wenlock nee Barker in 1858, father Mander was James a Lock keeper.

I think John's  baptism is probably the one at Dudley to James & Mary, who appear to have come from the Claverdon Parish, and a matching marriage for James is 1791 to Mary Smith, and he says from Lapworth, but no matching baptisms are turning up :/

I can post more details if required,
thanks,
Sharon

I have Manders in my tree. They are probably related somewhere along the line but the records in that part of Warks, are quite sketchy. I do know that the Wootton Wawen records were water damaged in parts.
looking at your family these are the children:
1794 Anne
1796 Robert
1797 Mary
1800 Diana
All Baptised Norton Lindsey.
In Staffs. there's:
1802 Diana
1810 John
What have you found to indicate they are the same family ?
Warks:Ashford;Cadby;Clarke;Clifford;Cooke Copage;Easthope;
Edmonds;Felton;Colledge;Lutwyche;Mander(s);May;Poole;Withers.

Hi Jim,
thanks for your reply.
I have Manders too, but not these, mine are Kineton > Dudley > Bury, Lancs.
These however are a DNA connection, whether through the Mander surname I do not yet know.
So, I am making assumptions on the lack of evidence at the moment.
I believe that I have exhaustively searched the following:
FamilySearch, Ancestry, TheGenealogist, FindmyPast, British Newspapers, all related Archives catalogues, Google and Google Books, FreeReg.
I am asking here in case there are relevant resources that I have missed.
cheers,
Sharon

PS The Diana 1800, and the Diana 1802 are one and the same, which helps the theory. Baptised twice, same birthdate :)

Hi
That 1791 marriage is by licence  James is from Lapworth and Mary of Norton Lindsey
wit William and Mary Manders  and Robert Maids the church clerk.

These are the possible christenings of siblings to James at Lapworth
Ann d of Robert and Diana 6.8.1750
Robert s of Robert and Christina 7.5.1754
William 21.7.1756 s of Robert and Christina

There's a marriage at Stratford on Avon
Robert and Christiana Byssel 14.9.1749.
It could be that Diana and Christina are the same woman.

The Hollier family tree on Ancestry as more children James born c 1758 and Mary c 1760

Thanks ciderdrinker, I will follow that thought! :)
There are a lot of Robert Mander's, it seems to have been the most popular  Christian name for them :D
