I am looking for information please about Fortune Inger, she is the mother of William Inger born 1724 Nottingham. I have never come across this name before  apart from William's birth.

William baptised 19 Nov 1724, at St Nicholas church Notts I can find no baptism for her or death

It originally is a French name meaning Lucky and many names are French origin in the UK as they spoke French for a long time ( along with Latin/Old English) so names were taken from the langauge heard, spoken or which influenced people.
I have seen it before, several times when I transcribed some traveller records for my local records office and given names were often previous family surnames at that time in society.

In my family there are 3 surnames which over the generations, migrated to be used as a middle name, then a first name and even now someone in the family each generation names their child one in particular of the name, I certainly would have used it for my son as I love the name, however it rhymed with my married surname and sounded terrible so I didn't.... so my guess is yes it was her 'real' name
