Edwin RUDGE, born c1836, Bilston (?), Staffordshire
« on: Saturday 10 March 18 13:39 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am meeting that famous "brick wall" in researching this gentleman.

The major problem is that there is little information to act as guidelines.   He was released on licence from Parkhurst Prison on 28/08/1852 and stated his destination was an unnamed Uncle, a Moulder, who lived in Bilston, Staffordshire.   The only other family mentioned, but no relationship given, was Mrs Elizabeth SMITH, New Village, Bilston, Staffordshire.  He appears NOT to have offended again.

Even the smallest amount of help would be useful.

Do you have Edwin in any censuses?
How does he connect to your family tree?

I found the following on FamilySearch:
Edwin, b 1834, bap 1852 Newland, Gloucestershire
Edwin, bap 1834 Halesowen
Edwin, bap 1835 Llangarren, Herefordshire
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Elizabeth Smith's address is given as New Village, Bilston, and living with her in 1851 are her daughters Elizabeth Rudge Smith 11 and Lydia Rudge Smith 7

Hello Willow,

Thank you for all the research.    I am very grateful.

However, my problem lies in trying to establish Edwin RUDGE's birth and parents.   It would seem you have a grasp of the family history and I would love you to confirm, if at all possible, how you connected all the details from your FreeREG research.   I have tried and failed!!!   Not an unusual aspect of my research ::)

For now,

I can only find one Edwin Rudge c 1835 on the 1891 census a fish monger in Wolstanton - is this the one you are looking for? do you have him on any other census?
