If this is the Harriett I Prosser who married the William Edward Haines b 1873 it would be handy to know why Harriett is in this Hospital, and where William Edward was?

When did the Haines family go to Canada.  I can see them all in 1881 but not after.
RG11/2908 f24 p14

Could William E have given the Elm Tree House address as he was 'staying' there with family (Aunts/uncles/cousins).    :-\

Hi again, believe I have located John/Catherine/John in Euphrasia Grey North, Ontario in 1921
John 46
John 75
Catherine 75

And 1911 Grey East, Ontario
John 65
Catherine 65
John 34
Immigration c 1905

John/Catherine also had a daughter Kate Eliza Haines March qtr 1883 Martley  who died June qtr Martley aged 0
Also Harry Leonard Haines Dec qtr 1885 Martley

1891 census:-

John Haines 44
Catherine 44
William 18
Ernest G 11
Susan Spilsbury 4 Niece ( mmn Barnett)
Residing at Ridgeway, Dodderhill, Droitwich
Census ref RG12/2343/143/14

1901 Census

John HAYNES 55
Catherine 55
George 20
Harry 15
Gertrude 5 Grandaughter
Residing at 22, Darlaston Road, Walsall, Staffordshire
Census ref RG13/7692/14/2

Wondered where Harry was in 1891 census, he is Harry Haines 5 b Martley  shown as visitor to a Joseph/Maria Bennett in Handsworth, Staffordshire
Census ref RG12/2263/78/23
No relationship with the Haines family, this family spent the majority of their married life in Dodderhill, Droitwich.

Oddly when he marries as Harry Leonard Haines 38 to Elsie Petch 17th December 1924 Grey, Ontario he names his parents as John Haines and Catherine Spilsbury.

Hi,

I think the man who dies in India in 1924 is the son b.1893 that is showing in the 1911 census. I can't reproduce the 1911 census here because of copyright, but this is the family in 1901,

1901  RG13/2479  f.58  p.6  Holmer and Shelwick,  Herefordshire
Elm Tree House

HAINES
William E     Head   42    Chemist Drug    Hereford  Holmer
Margarett     Wife    41                               Westmoreland Preston Richard
William E      Son      7                               Hereford  All Saints
Gilbert A       Son     5                                    "  "         "  "
Margaret      Son     4                                    "  "          "  "
Alfred           Son     2                                    "  "       Holmer
Kathleen A ROBERTS    Servant    ?7    Governess Domestic    Radnor Kinneston
Mary STOTT                         "          22    General Servant          Hereford  Birley

I think it's possible that Nancy has seen this Herefordshire 1934 Kelly's Directory entry,

Holmer
Private Residents

HAINES Miss Margaret M. Elm Tree House
HAINES William Edward Elm Tree Ho

They are still there in 1939.

I can't see anything yet that shows this family are connected to the William Edward HAINES b.1873 in Martley Worcestershire.

Harriet was my mother's aunt (so my great aunt) and my mother told me that she virtually brought her up.  She always referred to her as Auntie Hattie. She died when I was very young, but I do remember her sister as a widow, Almina Watson, a fairly no nonsense little old lady. I don't believe that Harriet had any children naturally, but she had an (adopted?) son, George, who lived out his later years on the Isle of Wight. Whether or not he was formally adopted I'm not sure. I remember meeting George on occasion when I was very young and he visited us.  While I have photos of headstones on the graves of some family members in Mordiford cemetery, I don't think I have one of Harriet's headstone.  When my mother was nearing the end of her life, she asked me to take her to Mordiford for the day.  She visited Harriet's grave and it was a very emotional moment for her. One thing I do have is the silver teapot presented to Harriet 'by the teachers and scholars' on the occasion of her marriage on February 29th 1908. By the way, my own records show that she was actually Harriet Isobella.
