Elsie Wright
« on: Saturday 10 March 18 21:41 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on a Elsie Wright she was a domestic servant in
Apperknowle, Unstone in August 1917. I am guessing that she would be around 17 to 20 years old.
She gave birth to baby boy on the 1st July 1917 a Horace Wright and I have his birth certificate, but the father has been omitted from the certificate.
Much appreciated in advance

Unfortunately, Elsie Wright is a common name! ;D

From 1895 until 1905, there are 59 Elsie Wright births registered in Derbyshire :-\
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Hello jessmas,

Here is your previous thread re Elsie - just to see which Elsie has already been mentioned.

You mention Staveley there - do you have any reason for this belief?

Here are  two marriages in Chesterfield district

March 1922
Elsie Wright and  Frederick P Frith

June 1924
Elsie Wright and Alfred Booth    Chesterfield

I know the Frith marriage is mentioned in your earlier thread.

Thanks for that Heywood and KGarrad,
Yes, I know there are a lot of of them during this time and I do believe she is the one born in Staveley and that she did marry Frederick P Firth. Just seeing if I can find anything else that can pin point that she is the right Elsie Wright that had the baby she had in 1917 Horace Wright. I am guessing that he would have been illegitimate as no fathers name on the birth certificate

It does seem so.

Do you not know anything of his childhood?
Do you have his marriage certificate with an address and witnesses?

Hi Heywood, Horace is not related to me but married my Grandmother, so he became my Step Granddad in a word. He was very good to us and he was like family to me. I know he fought in the Second World War, but that's about it. I know he had children from his first marriage and I reckon I have them on the family tree.
Regards

His marriage certificate may help with witnesses and an address.
In the other thread, you mention a possible adoption.
As he died in the area, he seems to have remained and was raised there. If you know nothing of his early life, he might have stayed with his mother or close relative.
