Maybe I should have written "might" have been born in Sweden. I didn't mean to suggest.

Ian
Ah, back on track - just checking I wasn't missing some detail. Thanks Ian.

Helena died in Dublin Nov 1st 1922.
Does c1867-1867 imply born -died or circa dates? we have a tight squeeze with Teckla & Thomas?
Thanks for all this,
L.

The dates are (birth-death)
Thomas Nicolas Skarin born 3 Dec.1867. Tuscar? Caroline died 1867 aged under 1 year (death not yet online so can't verify exact age or parents) so could have been born in 1866 or early 1867.

Not sure if there were any other children (pre-registration or with other variations of surname that my searches missed) but it looks as though the children were young when their father died and Susan was left with at least 3 daughters (Helena, Engla, Thecla) to raise.

Hi
I am pretty sure I have found your Nicholas Skarin. His name was Nils Petter Skarin born 4 Feb 1819 in Norrköpings Östra Eneby Parish. He also had a wife and family in Gothenburg too. A couple of his children's names will look familiar.

Just by the off chance that the Skarin name was a soldier's name I took a look in the Swedish Soldier Database and found Gerhard Skarin. Search Skarin born 1787:
http://www.ep.liu.se/databases/soldatregister/search.en.aspx

Nils Petter Skarin birth in Norrköpings Östra Eneby Parish - Father Gerhard - nr 15:

Nils Petter Skarin in the 1831 HHE Book in Norrköpings Östra Eneby Parish. 11th row down:

Nils Peter Skarin in the 1855 HHE Book in Gothenburg Domkyrka Parish. Middle right:

Nils' Parents and Family:
Gerhard Skarin b.1788
Maja Stina Johansdotter b.1787

Johanna b.1811
Carl johan b.1816
Gerhard b.1822
Stina Maria b.1824
Frans Gerhard b.1827

Nils' Wife and Family:
Cathrina Dorothea Wilhelmina Berggren b.1822

Clara Nicolina b.1849
Frans Gerhard b.1850
Augusta Wilhelmina b.1852
Thecla Eleonora b.1854

His occupation at that time was a shoemaker (journeyman). Same occupation as in Ireland.
Written to the left of Nils' name (from the Gothenburg page) the minister has written that Nils left for USA June 1855.

Here is Nils' wife Cathrina and daughter Thekla in 1877 in Norrköpings St Olai Parish. Cathrina is recorded as being still married and a note to the right saying that her husband is in USA:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01lqv/

It looks as though Nils left ship in Ireland and stayed.

Ian

That's fantastic Ian, top man...wow, not sure where to go from here but great to have the Swedish link at last. Big thanks yet again..

Just taking a gander and the only fly in the ointment is that Nicholas & Susan are married in 1842 - so unless he kept moving between the two we have a magic window of 13 years before he declares he is heading to US??
L.

Apologies - my error (yet again) must learn to slow down, have numbers swimming around - must have mis-read. That makes so much sense. So he was c40 when married to Susan and she was 18...looking through a Swedish Roots page (https://forum.genealogi.se/index.php?topic=74284.0) which is looking at Skarin families - fascinating!!
Cheers. L.
