Is this the same person?
« on: Tuesday 13 March 18 09:43 GMT (UK) »
Help please. I am trying  sort out the HODGETT family from Gornal Wood.
James and Mary had ESTHER baptised 7 Apr 1822 in SEDGLEY
Then I find two marriages:
Event Date:   25 Sep 1855
Event Place:   St. Mary'S, Kingswinford, Stafford, England
Father James HODGETTS  a miner
Spouse Job HEKEN
This from Family Search
and from FREE reg
Esther HEKEN wid mThomas Price wid her father JAMES hodgetts 10 Mar 1863 Lower GORNAL

Job is on the 1861 census twice once as a patient in WOLVERHAMPTON Hospital and once as head ocuppation Wolverhampton Hospital head of family with Esther Job was buried 1 Jan 1862 in Lower GornAl (Free Reg)
Esther is on the 1851 census with her mother and was an unmarried brickmaker

The problem being that Family Search marriage transcription has both parties widowed and her age as 25 ie born 1830

I can't find a HODGETTS/HODGETTS marriage between 1851 and 1855 so was she really a widow/

Can I assume this is the same ESTHER throughut and she was only married twice?

The 1855 marriage to Job Heken has both Esther and her father with the same surname, implying that she is a spinster.

There is a burial for a Job Hicken in 1862 in Lower Gornall. He is aged 31, yob 1825 which fits with the info given at his marriage to Esther.

Esther, now a widow, remarries in 1863.

I would say that you are looking at Esther Hodgett's marital history - married, widowed, married again.

Marriage Reg is on FreeBMD Sept 1855, Hodgetts Esther/Heken Job

Looks to me that Familysearch may have mistranscribed the Marriage?

that is how I Interperated it too but the sges worry me snd the "widoe" reference, and now I can't find her after she marries Thomas Price On that marriage his father is given as John and his age sugessts a birth in 1821 but on Free Reg the Thomas with father John was baptised in 1824! there is a Thomas baptised in 1821 but not father John and he seems to marry a Susannah. There is a couple Thomas and Esther PRICEon the 1871 but they are already together in 1861. It really is confusing,
YES Trish the reg if correct and mstches the Family Search one which is ESTHER Hodgetts and Job Heken but in question is why was she down as a widow/for her father to be James HOdgetts she would have had to have married another HODGETTS..I think the widow is a mistranscription
