Jennifer C - yes, I did have that info for Sarah A born Newington, but I was doubtful if it was the correct family, as on the marriage cert dated 1877 her father was listed as Charles Alfred Foy, engineer.  I think I might go back and pursue that a little further.

Hi again, so you knew of the Aston family of Shepherd, your concern is the earlisr census for Sarah Ann Foy is it the correct father?

PS I would say it was the family located earlier for her?

Hi I have checked out all marriages for the girls on 1871 census, on each occasion they have given the occupation of Charles or Charles Alfred Foy as Engineer.
On all the baptisms I located the occupation of Charles was a Fireman.

PS the Clementine H Foy on 1881 with a widowed Sarah, married as Helena Clementina Foy 13th December 1913 St James, Bermondsey her father was Charles Edward/Edmund Foy ?? occ Engineer. ( Her birth was registered as Clemente/Clements Eleanor Foy June qtr 1878 St Olave mmn Betts.)

Charles was baptised 30th June 1837 Rotherhithe St Mary as Charles Edward Foy born 7th March 1833 father George occ Custom House Officer Mother Elizabeth along with his brother James William Foy b 10th December 1830.

He married as Charles Foy occ Fireman Father George occ Land Waiter ( A Custom House Officer)
Sarah Betts Father James Betts occ Leather Dresser
16th October 1854 St John Horselydown

Thanks so much for that info.  That looks fairly conclusive and I can reinstate my records for Sarah and Betts connection, and add in the Foy names.  Which leaves me with Wm John Shepherd born Camberwell around 1857, father James who was deceased on the marriage certificate.  Onwards and upwards!

On the marriage cert in 1877 William John gave his address as 5 Clandon Street.

That address in 1871:
618/39/72
Ancestry has the people listed as:

Swyson Sheppard   48
Rosa M Sheppard   45
Ellen Sheppard           13

Just wondered if there were a connection somehow.
