Have you ruled out the 1934 marriage (on ScotlandsPeople) between Margaret Watson and James William Cooke?

I'm wondering if she was in a common law marriage with a Mr Cook  so no marriage registration.

Looked at that one and wrong parents.

PS - just looked again and it says she was 20. Parents were Alexanader Watson and Jane Reid

She did have an illegitimate child in 1916/17 and she registered the birth and the child had her surname Watson.
What was the name of the child? Have you found a marriage of the child? Is the child the parent of E Cherry?

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Yikes, Gadget, it seems that you've already given this a thorough examination.

I also wonder about the possibility that Margaret had a common-law relationship with Mr. Cook.

The 1941 marriage would have given Margaret's residence (and occupation) at the time. I wonder if there are city directories for that period that could be searched for Margaret Watson or Cook?

Josephine

FreeBMD has a 1926 marriage for a Margaret E. Watson and an Alfred Cook in Yorkshire.
How did I manage to miss that one when I searched on FreeBMD?

I have just looked at her birth cert. again and her full name was Margaret Wallace Robertson Watson
so that wouldn't fit in with the marriage you found in 1926 unfortunately.

Not sure about the Margaret E.

PS - a pity Scotland doesn't have their 1939 online :-\
