China,mission,Tamingfu.
« on: Tuesday 13 March 18 15:49 GMT (UK) »
Hello all does any one know anything about the  south Chihli mission.
My cousin Amy B Grantham was a nurse missionary there between 1923-1927.
She married another missionary in 1927 previously a seaman William J Campbell.
He was a widower with 3 sons his wife died there.
They had to leave in 1927 due to the famine and the communists were taking over,
there was a lot of fighting.
regards tobyma123 :)

Do you know which Missionary Society they went with?  If so, they would be the place to contact as they may well have archives.

Maybe China Inland Mission?

but there would have been others.  I know Baptist Missionary Society had people in China. for example.

Have you tried newspapers?  I've learned a little about my relative's time in China from newspaper articles and notices advertising that he would be speaking on a certain date.  The main purpose of the articles was to raise funds for the mission.

I wonder whether you might be able to get some photos from here?

Quite a lot comes up on googling.  Havent read it all, but I think the gist was that an American branch of the Wesleyans originally built the hosptial at Tamingfu.

Hello  all thank you so  much for your interest, I don't know which church she went with.
As far as I know all family were C of E .
I will try the links you have sent me, I am afraid I do not have access to newspaper archives.
Do you think that The British Library would have anything?.
Thanks again.
Regards tobyma123 :)

Looking at this yesterday, I found a 1923 newspaper reference to Amy Grantham (nurse) among a group of United Free Church of Scotland people who were going to China as missionaries. I'll see if I can find it again.

The article was in the Scotsman, 25 May 1923, page 9. All of the new missionaries are named. Some (like Amy Beatrice Grantham) going to Manchuria, some to India, some to Africa, some to Jamaica.
