Alfred Taylor marriage
« on: Tuesday 13 March 18 19:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi.
I am looking for the marriage of Alfred Taylor (born 1868, Nottingham) to Sarah Wilkinson nee Ashworth (born 1869, Bury).  I believe this would have been in Lancashire in 1892.  This is based on the 1911 census stating 19 yrs married.  I know all their 9 children were born in Blackpool, the eldest being Walter born 15th Sept 1893,  address 25 Ball St. Blackpool.  In 1891, Sarah Wilkinson  was living in Bury with her mother Alice Ashworth.
Thanks in advance.
Dave Garratt.

Hello Dave and welcome.  :)

Is this Sarah’s marriage (from Lancashire BMD)

1888 John Wilkinson and Sarah Ashworth Bury Register Office or Registrar attended.

How is Sarah described in 1891? Is she a widow?

Do you have John’s death?

John Wilkinson married Sarah Ashworth in 1888.  They had a son Thomas in 1888 who died in 1891.
The 1891 census shows Sarah as married, but back home with her mother Alice Ashworth.  Not sure about John Wilkinson's death.

There is a death in Bury for a John Wilkinson

Jun 1891 Bury 8c 424 age 47

Could this be him? I can't see him in 1891 - lots of John Wilkinsons in Lancashire born around 1844 but all seem to be with wives.

The only other scenario is that he didn't die and that is why you can't find an Alfred Taylor/Sarah Wilkinson marriage.

Thank you.

I found that information after I posted but I can’t see Sarah and family in 1901.
I can’t yet see a marriage in the indexes in Fylde or  Bury.

Do you have John Wilkinson’s details - year and place of birth and occupation?

I am asking in case he was still alive as emeltom has just suggested or was Alfred previously married?

Researching John Wilkinson again I don't think he was dead.  I've just found him living with his mother Ann and family on 1891 census.  This also includes grandson Thomas.  He died later in 1891.
John is again living with his mother on the 1901 census.   It doesn't look if they were living as married
or I have the wrong Sarah !!

John was born 1866 in Ramsbottom.  Family in Hornby st, Bury on 1891 and 1901 census.  He was a cotton twister.

That is likely to be the reason why you can’t find the marriage.
If Alfred and Sarah were together a long time, you could look for a later marriage.
My ancestors married after many years together, when a first spouse had died.

That would probably be to fit with the age of the oldest child. That’s what usually happens. :)
