It looks like I may have the wrong Sarah (ie Wilkinson,  nee Ashworth).

Looking into Alfred Taylor again but only Sarah (no surname), I have found the following :-
Name:   Alfred Taylor
Registration Year:   1892
Registration Quarter:   Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration district:   Bury
Parishes for this Registration District:   View Ecclesiastical Parishes associated with this Registration District
Inferred County:   Lancashire
Volume:   8c
Page:   789
Records on Page:
Name
Ann Isherwood
Sarah Lomax
Alfred Taylor
John Crocker Tucker

This has Alfred Taylor marriage to a Sarah ?  in 1892 in Bury.

Looking on Lancs BMD that particular Alfred Taylor married Ann Isherwood and Sarah Lomax married John Crocker Tucker.

Also the GRO site ref for the birth of son Walter in 1893 gives the mmn as Ashworth

I think you might just have to accept that it is possible that they never married.

Many thanks for confirming those details.

I've just tried to display the info for Walter Taylor's birth on GRO site and get 'no matching records found'.  Not sure where I'm going wrong !!

Would be interested to know what it says for 2nd son Alfred,  born 29th Oct 1984  and 3rd son Clifford, born 18th Jan 1897.  Both Blackpool.

regards
Dave Garratt.

Brilliant.  Thank You so much for your help.

So it looks like Sarah Wilkinson, nee Ashworth is the correct Sarah from Bury.  They probably were not married as Sarah was still married to John Wilkinson, certainly in the 1890s.  And it shows 19 yrs married on the 1911 census due to birth of the children !!
