Bridget McCrickard b abt 1845
« on: Wednesday 14 March 18 00:10 GMT (UK) »
hello,

I'm looking to track down a baptism for Bridget McCrickard in hopes to find her mother's name.  On her 1867 Kilkeel marriage record to James Rush Bridget lists her fathers name as Michael.  I found a hole group of McCrickards who had a daughter Bridget between 1843-1847 but not one of them had the father's name as Michael.  Doing a general search for a michael turned up nothing as well, until one was born in 1860s.  any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks!
Nich

According to the 1867 marriage, Bridget McCrickard was from Moneyscalp in Kilcoo civil parish and I imagine you've seen the various references online to the McCrickards of Moneyscalp, for example by just googling or checking out the Ireland censuses, PRONI Will Calendars, or the currently 'frozen' version of Ros Davies' website here:
https://web.archive.org/web/20170710060747/http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com:80/~rosdavies/SURNAMES/Mc/McCr.htm

However,  according to both a transcript of the church marriage record and an image of the original civil marriage record I've seen, when Bridget McCrickard married James Rush on 2 December 1867, her father wasn't shown as Michael McCrickard, rather as Nicholas McCrickard, a farmer.  Griffith's Valuation has a local print date of 1863 and shows a John and Nicholas McCrickard occupying properties in Moneyscalp.

A potential baptism for Bridget is the following one in Kilcoo RC parish on 8 March 1845, parents listed as Nicholas McCrickard and Mary McClean (right page, 5th entry down):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633229#page/66/mode/1up

(BTW, note on the previous page the baptism of a child for John McCrickard and Mary Maginn of Moneyscalp.)

I can see other Kilcoo RC parish baptisms for parents given as Nicholas McCrickard and Mary McClean: James in 1833; John in 1838; Patrick in 1840; Arthur in 1843; John in 1847; Mary in 1849.

Possible marriage for Patrick:

Possible marriage for Mary:

A widowed farmer called Nicholas McCrickard with a reported age of 93 died at Moneyscalp in 1896:

Thank you very much.  I only had access to the marriage transcriptions and it appears it was transcribed way off.  Thank you so much for your help and all the extras! I assumed it was something simple mistake wise.  :)
