I'd say 1877- 1885

I was worried about that neck ware and just found a bow tie and collar, dated 1870s.The silk braiding lasted well into the 1880s though.

That would fit his age better wouldn't it as I felt that he looked older than 20ish. but I too wasn't sure about the tie.

1877 would make him 21 and I think he looks older, as you do Carol.

However, I gather that men were more likely to have beards and moustaches in the 1870s than 1880s!  We'll get to date men's outfits one way or another, Carol
