Help finding service number navy

Hi

Im trying to track down the navy service records for a Roderick MacDonald born 8 Nov 1915 on the Isle of Eigg in Scotland, although he was married in Liverpool during the war and lived there until his death. The gov.uk website says i need his number but no idea where to find it, would it be on his marriage certificate?

If you are trying to get his service records from the MOD you can get them without providing his service number
