Help with death certificate
« on: Thursday 15 March 18 17:36 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with the details on the death certificate.

I have the date 24 Aug 1898, and Muirkirk (Scotland), and the fathers name.

What does it say as
occupation?
Name of the street he lived?
mothers maiden name?
And the informant?
McClean, Kelly, Murray, Higgins, McAnulty (McNulty, Conalty, Kinolty), Morgan, Rafferty, McPolin (All Co Down, Ireland) Bowman, Hooper(Yorkshire)

Thanks for that.

The maiden name I think should be Cowan, bit I can't really see that.

Could just about be Cown but it would be written as it was said.

PS Still think it says Conn, though

Doesn't look like Cowan to me either, but don't forget that the information is only as accurate as the knowledge of the informant.

As the informant was the inspector of the Poor, her might have just read what was written in a record and repeated the mistake - just how it sounded the first time it was written.

Sorry - half of what I was saying didn't get copied!

....but if Cwellan knows it was Cowan, then that is what is should say. Many of these death certs have wrong info in them as it depends on the informants knowledge.
