Yes, thanks to MaxD who kindly transcribed his record, I know he started with 1st/9th then 2nd/9th Middlesex Regt, then in 1916 transferred to 1st/12th then to 2nd/12th Batt. London Regt.

There are 3 mentions of hospitalization:
  • Admitted to hospital in Etaples - 16 Jan 1917 (age 22)
  • Evacuated to UK Wharnecliffe War Hospital Sheffield - 7 Feb 1917 - 24 Mar 1917
  • In hospital in France - 30 Mar 1918 - 13 May 1918 (age 23)

I need to check if HB's were worn overseas or just in the UK, if the latter then you may have dated this photo to within a 2 month period in 1917, Jim  ;D

[after thought, his birthday was 19th March so perhaps the photo was taken due to that]
