Lichfield Wills Index ?
« on: Saturday 17 March 18 11:56 GMT (UK) »

Hello, everyone and hope all is well,

I've never noticed previously but my ancestor's will is listed on the Index of Wills - Diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, 1620-1780, however, I've just noticed something that's confusing me:

Personal Details
Surname: Hide
Forename(s): Lydia

Place of Residence: Wednesbury
County: Staffordshire

Occupation / Status:Widow

Type of Document Recorded
Will: Yes
Letter of Administration: No
Inventory of Goods: Yes

Date Recorded: 26 Jul 1727

Diocese of Lichfield
Reference:
P/C/11

I'm puzzled because all the other wills that I've checked for Wednesbury are held under
Lichfield Consistory Court B/C/11

My ancestor's will is held under Peculiar courts P/C11 and other wills held here were usually some distance from the Wednesbury area.

Is it possible that my ancestor held some land interests outside of the Wednesbury area?

She was Bapt' at Great Barr, Staffordshire but I've found very little else in her family except her father was John Cox.

Typically the Peculiar courts' wills are not yet available to view online.

It just seems strange to me that the other Wednesbury wills were not proved at the Peculiar courts.

Any ideas?

Kind regards
Adrian Powell
