What was a pont?

I have been transcribing a legal case of an action for debt in the Berwick upon Tweed Court of Pleas in 1711. The widow of Roger Morton, Mason of Berwick is pursuing a debt for payment for work done by her deceased husband for the defendant David Moffet. Moffet had contracted him to construct ‘a pont for water’ in Wooler, Northumberland.

What was a pont?

Pont is normally a bridge but think I'd go with Kay's interpretation here.

Pont is French for bridge so maybe word used here too?

I wonder if it is an alternative spelling of the word "pant", which was used for a public water fountain.  This should link to a site about the pants of Alnwick which is fairly near geographically:
