A E Thorne Monmouthshire Regiment
« on: Saturday 17 March 18 20:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone.

I'm trying to find information on the above individual for a friend.

I have found his medal record card and that gives his service number as 2506.  However, I can't seem to find any other record for him.  I've checked attestation documents, pension records, SWB records and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website but can't find any other mention of him.

I know that lots of WW1 records were losst in WW2, but wonder if anyone can suggest anywhere else for me to have a look at.

Thanks, in advance for your advice.

As far as military records go, you've looked everywhere.  What does survive does have another piece of info you may have missed.
His medal card notes that he was discharged under the Military Service Act 1916.  This dates his discharge to the first six months of 1916, the process is explained here:
http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/soldiers/a-soldiers-life-1914-1918/demobilisation-and-discharge/discontinuation-discharges-completion-engagement/  His number indicates pre war service.

His records show no other battalion so it would seem his service overseas was from 7 Nov 1914 until discharge.
War diary is downloadable for 3.50 at http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7352173  also on Ancestry.

Thanks MaxD.

That's a very comprehensive and useful reply.  I shall pass this on to my friend who, I know, will be delighted and grateful.
