A warm welcome to rootschat  :).

To save duplication of effort, where have you got your original information from? And what further information do you seek? Was Peter in the British Army? Do you have the couple on later censuses to show places & dates of birth?

Yes he was a British soldier. info from ancestry. the marriage record states the surname of Mary Ann as Keoon  but that might be transcribed wrong is there anyway of checking the original records. thanks in advance

I have looked on findmypast at army marriages but it doesn't seem to have been entered by the chaplain [this is not uncommon].

Do you know what regiment he was in and/or his army record? Sometimes army records have date of marriage.

ADDED: did they have any children in England or Wales? If so you can check Mary Ann's maiden surname from GRO index; it's free but you need to register.

Thanks everyone  the maiden name is unknown owing to Mary Ann being a native Indian we think she was of the Blackfoot  tribe or that is what mother told us. He was in the Scotts Guards.

Then I expect that K'Coon was a phonetic interpretation of her name on the birth certificates.

ADDED: all censuses bar 1891 say born USA but 1891 RG12; Piece: 214; Folio: 86; Page: 8 says Utica.
