Hi Andrea, the only information I found out about my great uncle (Alexander Lascelles Knipe) is from the Royal College of Surgeons library entry. It doesn't mention his first marriage and child at all!! It says he was in Edinburgh, Carlisle, then Shrewsbury as a junior doctor; he joined the RAF Medical branch in 1939 and served until 1961 (then group captain). After retiring from the RAF he worked at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh from 1961 - 1964 and then he was appointed senior surgical specialist at Eshowe Provincial Hospital in Natal, South Africa and he worked there until 1971. It says he married Pamela Mary Jassey in 1944 and they had one daughter and he died around 1990 in Natal. He lived to be about 86 but I never met him and my mother never spoke about an uncle so I wonder if there was some sort of scandal, especially as my great grandparents were missionaries. They had their children late - Margaret Anderson Stephen had Constance when she was 36 and Alexander at 42, she was 6 years older than her husband, William Lascelles Knipe. I think there was a third child because my mother had an 'Aunty Jane' (Jane Knipe), who I do remember vaguely and whom she did keep in touch with.
Kind regards, Susie
