James Alexander Knipe
« on: Sunday 18 March 18 12:42 GMT (UK) »
I am a first time user here. I have just inherited some family papers with very detailed and interesting family history. Whilst searching I came across a connecting search in 2009 by Shaggy13 with help from Ambly...it seems Shaggy and I are distant relatives and I have some info to share which may help fill holes e.g why the Lascelles middle name was given.

My question is this. Is any one else on this forum connected to the knipe Lascelles Lessels Leigh history and interested in sharing family history's?

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

RootsChat has a Surnames Interest Board, where members post all their surname interests.
A link can be found at the bottom of any RootsChat page.
In the dark-brown box, under the heading "Your Tools" is the link to "Surname Interests".

Have a look there ;D
And, why not post your own interests while you're there?

Hi, James Alexander Knipe was my great great grandfather. My mother's mother was Constance Leigh Knipe. Sadly I never met her as she died in 1952 and my mother passed away in 2012.  I haven't got a lot of family history information, except I know my grandmother was born in China as her parents were Scottish missionaries in China and Tibet.

Hi...My Great Uncles daughter was Georgina Evelyn Ward...she married Constance's brother Alexander Lascelles Knipe in 1930. I know he was medical student and then became a Dr. She was a nurse. They would have met at the Shropshire Infirmary....They had a child in 1940's Alan. Alexander married again a year after that to Pamela Jassoy and they had a daughter Christine ...I have a bit of information on my Ancestry tree, but cant work out if Georgina(Evelyn) and Alexander divorced. Evelyn married in 1955 to George G.C. Smith.
Just wondering if you have any more information?
Cheers

Hi Andrea, the only information I found out about my great uncle (Alexander Lascelles Knipe) is from the Royal College of Surgeons library entry. It doesn't mention his first marriage and child at all!!  It says he was in Edinburgh, Carlisle, then Shrewsbury as a junior doctor; he joined the RAF Medical branch in 1939 and served until 1961 (then group captain). After retiring from the RAF he worked at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh from 1961 - 1964 and then he was appointed senior surgical specialist at Eshowe Provincial Hospital in Natal, South Africa and he worked there until 1971. It says he married Pamela Mary Jassey in 1944 and they had one daughter and he died around 1990 in Natal. He lived to be about 86 but I never met him and my mother never spoke about an uncle so I wonder if there was some sort of scandal, especially as my great grandparents were missionaries. They had their children late - Margaret Anderson Stephen had Constance when she was 36 and Alexander at 42, she was 6 years older than her husband, William Lascelles Knipe. I think there was a third child because my mother had an 'Aunty Jane' (Jane Knipe), who I do remember vaguely and whom she did keep in touch with.
Kind regards, Susie
