File of papers relating to the request to government by J Chambers to allow his father John Chambers, a Dublin United Irishman in 1790s, to be allowed to return to Ireland. Includes letter from J Chambers, Abbey Street, Dublin, to Sir Henry Parnell, MP for Queen's County [County Laois], detailing his father's case - his surrender in 1798; his subsequent imprisonment in Kilmainham prison, Dublin and Fort George, Scotland; and his release in Hamburg, Germany, under agreement not to return to Ireland. Notes Parnell's agreement to communicate with Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, on subject, 13 November 1818. Also includes letter from Chambers, 6 Arundel Street, London, to Grant, requesting that government allow his father to return, through similar arrangements as those made for Archibald Hamilton Rowan. Notes Sir Henry Parnell's efforts on his father's behalf subject since 1813, 23 April 1819. Also copy of reply from Grant, Irish Office, London, to Chambers stating that the Lord Lieutenant cannot grant his father permission to return to Ireland, 14 June 1819.
