web browser with bookmarks and history ?

For a long time I used Firefox which gave me both bookmarks and a browsing history.  After an upgrade I found both had gone and did not seem to be available.
I then started on Chrome which gave me limited bookmarks for much-used sites, but no history.  These bookmarks have now gone, and I do not want to be keying in regularly-used site addresses each time.
I am not a techie and would welcome suggestions.  I have Windows 10 on a laptop.

Maybe you've chosen options to:
Never remember history
or
Clear History when Firefox closes?

Both in the Options tab.

It worked, but only with newly-created bookmarks - the old ones have gone.

Why not . . . . .
Create a web page (ie xxxxx.html)
Say, 5x columns
* Technical ( ISP IP ADDRESS, Your Router IP address, Unix Help, HTML help, etc )
* Genealogical ( Rotschat, Ancrusty, FindMyPeople, AGRO, TraceGenie, Maps, Pubhistory, MapsHistory, etc )
* Personal ( Mail, Banking, Milk Orders, Beer Delivery, etc )
* Reminders (  )
* Ad-hoc ( News, Weather, TraceGenie, BT, SKY, Virgin, etc )
Save it in, say, Documents.

I use Firefox, so Tools / HomePage and add a shortcut to xxxxx.html
then add your fave web pages, example
xxxxx.html | http://www.speedtest.net/ | about:blank | https://www.facebook.com | . . . . .
