History of Leicestershire Villages
« on: Sunday 18 March 18 23:00 GMT (UK) »
I think I might of traced my Tew/Tue family line from Leire to Sharnford then back to Cosby in the mid 1650's
Now just a general question.  Was Cosby a part of Leicestershire back then? Or was it considered more Warwickshire in the 1650's?  Just need to try and trace anymore records if possible as they seem to be quite thin regarding Cosby.

Thanks

Hi Suzy

As far as I know it has always been part of Leicestershire. The nearest part of Warwickshire would be Nuneaton a good 15/20 miles away.
Leicestershire is one of the few counties whose boundaries changed little over the centuries, just minor changes around the edges, apart from absorbing and disengaging Rutland, but that was never accepted by the inhabitants, only by the bureaucrats.

Regards,
Malcolm.

Thanks.
Reason being is that there doesn't seem to be many parish records for Cosby at this stage.
One of my Tew's did marry in Narborough and settled in Sharnford. And I was wondering if he was from Cosby or Warwickshire?
A parish record does seem to fit very nicely with his birth around 1717 for Cosby
Seems to be many Tew's in Warwickshire, so presume they intruded upon Cosby sometime in the mid 1600's ;D
Then they intruded upon Leire for the next 100 years.
