1911 Census - Scotland Completed, with thanks
« on: Monday 19 March 18 17:07 GMT (UK) »
This may be a very stupid question, but!!

If a child is under the age of 1 year when the 1911 census was taken, how would that age be recorded?  0 or a number of months, and confirmed as months rather than years.

I've only had access to one page, and there doesn't appear to be any child under the age of 1 on it, hence the question.   :-\

I've not seen a 1911 under 1 on the Scottish censuses but previous censuses have usually recorded it as months.

Thank you very much.  I asked the question because the person in question is stated as being 5.  If this child is the one people believe she is, then she was born February 1910 or 1911 (1939 Register and death certificate).  The other child in the household is also aged 5, but I have seen the birth registration for 1905, so am more than happy with that.

Many thanks

Just checked the free index for the 1911 Census for my gran , age is showing as 0.
There's also a Wilhelmina Blair age 3 mo on the same page , given as 0 on the index.

It should be the age in months, but it should show up as 0 in the SP index.

If what is on the original differs from what is in the SP index, contact Scotland's People using the link when you are viewing the original, and they will correct the index.

If you are not viewing the original, and/or you are using a transcription or index from anywhere else, go to Scotland's People and view the original.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi - I actually viewed the image of the page.  Both children are entered as being aged 5.

Hi - I actually viewed the image of the page.  Both children are entered as being aged 5.
In that case it must have been a mistake by the enumerator, and SP can't do anything about the index.

The main thing is that you have seen all the original evidence and satisfied yourself what it tells you.

Yes, I have thank you.  I was just wanting to know how children under the age of 1 were generally entered, as there didn't appear to be any babies on the page I had seen.
