Australia Queensland Electoral Rolls 1970s Help Please
« on: Tuesday 20 March 18 11:21 GMT (UK) »
I have a problem.  Someone has told me that they have seen that a relative showed up on an Electoral Roll in 1977 in Bowman, Queensland, Australia.

I do not know how I can get any more information and wondered if there is anyone on here who could help please?

His name was Dennis Gilbert Allum.  It's just possible the Gilbert is in fact Gerald.  His wife was Winifred.  He must have emigrated to Australia after the 2nd War as he was a policeman on the Railways in 1939.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

The middle name is Gilbert.

ALLUM, DENNIS  GILBERT
Mother's maiden surname: ALLUM
GRO Reference: 1916  J Quarter in FULHAM  Volume 01A  Page 575

He married Winifred Elizabeth Edna KING in Romford, Essex in 1939.  They emigrated with their 9 year old son in 1951 on the RMS Ormonde

Bowman is just an electoral district, they lived at Redland Bay.

Their immigration records are here:

http://soda.naa.gov.au/record/5040985/1

They were still in Queensland in 1980 but it looks like Dennis died in South Australia in 1982.

Words fail me Debra!  I did not realise how much can be found.  Thank you so much once more.  I am doing the research on behalf of a friend, she will be tickled pink, it will give her a lot to think about.  I will tell her I had much help!

I think the Aunt mentioned was Rosa Alice ALLUM, married to Philip Austin MURPHY who was an American.

Hi Debra

I suppose because I have had no relatives emigrate to Australia I have not seen the amount of detail one can find about a person.  I now know he was 6 ft tall and 12 st. It's an amazing resource.

Thank you once again.
