USS JUNEAU - Torpedoed Ship Found
« on: Wednesday 21 March 18 07:58 GMT (UK) »
There is a very interesting article today in the Metro newspaper on page 19 on USE Juneau which was torpedoed 76 years ago.  The article has several accompanying photos.

An expedition had been funded to find this ship and this was found at last on St Patrick's day at the weekend.  The death toll when this ship went down was 687 and there were 10 survivors.I

Amongst those who died at that time were five Irish-American brothers from the 'Sullivan' family.  The brothers had been determined that they wanted to serve together.

Conroy, Fitzpatrick, Watson, Miller, Davis/Davies, Brown, Senior, Dodds, Grieveson, Gamesby, Simpson, Rose, Gilboy, Malloy, Dalton, Young, Saint, Anderson, Allen, McKetterick, McCabe, Drummond, Parkinson, Armstrong, McCarroll, Innes, Marshall, Atkinson, Glendinning, Fenwick, Bonner

Thank you Malky, for adding more on this story and a video clip. :)

What a terrible thing it must have been for the Sullivan parents to learn that they had lost all five of their son's as an outcome of this part-time disaster. :'(
