Mitochondrial and Y DNA old tests on Ancestry
« on: Thursday 22 March 18 13:05 GMT (UK) »
I've just realised that I can access the old MtDNA test I had done at Ancestry before autosomal became the norm. I couldn't have my paternal done as I had no living male relative who would was interested in taking the test. My husband's paternal Y test was also done and stored.

I've uploaded our autosomal to Gedmatch but is it also possible to upload my maternal and my husband's paternal as well as our autosomal? If so, would it help narrow down maternal and paternal matches?

I cannot answer your question re transferring the Y & MtDNA done by Ancestry a few years ago, but am interested to know if you can access it,as several posters on the FTDNA Forums indicate that they had not been able to ?

GEDmatch don't accept Y-STR and mtDNA results.

Ancestry Y-STR results can be transferred to the Family Tree DNA database for a small fee:

https://www.familytreedna.com/landing/ydna-transfer.aspx

FTDNA have the world's largest Y-STR database and host 99% of all the surname projects. There are also specialist haplogroup and geographical projects at FTDNA.

Ancestry tested different markers to FTDNA. To get the most out of the FTDNA matching database it's best to do the "upgrade" to 37 markers, but this does require getting a new sample from the test-taker.

Y-DNA results can also be uploaded free of charge to Ysearch:

http://www.ysearch.org/

Ysearch is no longer supported and it's a bit creaky. When you try to upload results you might get an error message or it might appear that the transfer hasn't worked but if you go back again afterwards the results should be there.

mtDNA results can be uploaded to Mitosearch:

http://www.mitosearch.org/

You can also add Y-STR and mtDNA results to your trees at Geni.com and Wikitree.

It's very strange ??? Yesterday, when I logged into my Ancestry DNA account the drop-down menu not only gave me access to my autosomal DNA but also to the two Y tests and my maternal test from several years back.

They are no longer on there??? I don't think they were there before yesterday either. I managed to download the two Y tests but not the MtDNA

That's odd. I can't see my Y-DNA and mtDNA results either. Mine were transferred to Ancestry from FTDNA>
