Williamsons of Pendleton (Buille Hill)
« on: Friday 23 March 18 21:03 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have access to the PR's for Pendleton ?  I am looking for the marriage of Thomas WILLIAMSON (b.c 1650), whose children were Henry, Elizabeth, William, John, Sarah & Thomas, all born at Buille Hill.   I am really trying to find out where the Williamsons came from originally.  Many thanks in advance.  ??? ???

Is it Pendleton, Salford, not Pendleton near Whalley?
If Pendleton, Salford, GEN UKI lists no church as early as 17thC. Pendleton wasn't very big then. Where were the children baptised? Marriage may have taken place somewhere else. LAN OPC has marriages for Eccles + other parishes within travelling distance. Do you know what churches were in existence in that era? You can do distance searches on GEN UKI and LAN OPC. Local history society or FH websites may have information re churches & registers in Pendleton area. Manchester & Lancashire Family History Society for example.

It's Pendleton in Salford, and the children are all shown as being baptized in Buille Hill, I (also in Salford).  After that, the family crop up in the records of St Mary The Virgin Church, Eccles.   In medieval times, this was the centre of a large parish containing Pendleton, Pendlebury, Clifton, Swinton, Worsley and Barton-upon-Irwell, and a church has occupied the site since Norman times, and before then.   Thanks Maiden Stone !
