I think I may have located records of the family but still tracing them (quite interesting it's turning out to be) but need you to confirm that the William Woodside we are looking for is definitely the son of Margaret Woodside of Shrigley with a daughter Margaret Ann (Woodside) Stevenson.

I'm pretty sure he's the same William.

That's great as it is (finally) the correct Woodside family I've found! William's age well off from age declared when he enlisted!

Brilliant! Nice when things start to fall into place.

The 1907 letter looking for son William ties him to the service record, 1911 census, and a mother Margaret with father William listed in 1918 marriage.
Then, looking for a William Woodside with wife Margaret & children William, George, Margaret leads to other records.
Births for those children show mother was Margaret Thompson & father was a blind fiddler named William.

31st October 1914 Larne Times has:

Quote
.  Private William Woodside, the South Lancashire Regiment, has arrived home at Shrigley. Killyleagh. wounded in the left foot.

It should be top result at:

albeit, credits would need to be purchased to view it.

Alternatively, if you have a FindMyPast subscription, it is available via their newspaper search page.

You can also search Find My Past Irish Newspapers free without signing in and usually get a fair idea of the article content- just keep changing search terms and filters to find more results.
