Deborah Ardiff
« on: Tuesday 27 March 18 13:09 BST (UK) »
Hi all
while going over some old baptisms i was checking out the sponsors and two that had me flummoxed for years were my grandfather's Denis O'Neill born August 1885 in Townsend St,Dublin
to Mat O'Neill and Nora Green.
They were Bartholemew O/Shea and Deborah Ardiff

Nora Green my great grandmother had a sister Julia Green who married at age 53 in 1911, just recently i looked at the civil cert and was surprised to find she was widow  Julia Shea
turns out that the priest recorded her name as Julia Sullivan in 1876
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01lti/

now for Deborah Ardiff nee Gallivan, the name Deborah Ardiff does not appear anywhere on the civil register in Ireland  but does appear twice on baptism records 1884/5 in Dublin
Deborah married Edward Ardiff in Killarney in 1878 he was a Stonecutter
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1878/11097/8061333.pdf
or number 18 here
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634332#page/89/mode/1up

Edward gave his parents as Edward Ardiff and Anne Reilly,Dublin but
suspect they may originally be from Kildare.

I can find no records for the Ardiff's after 1885 and was wondering could someone else, seems a bit of a mystery.

Any help much appreciated as always.

Hi Hallmark
yes i have checked the registers for Edward and saw one death in Dublin 1874 for a 47 yr old who could possibly be his father ?
The majority of Ardiff's coming out of Kildare were Stonecutters a few ended up in Kilmainham where i am sure they set up the well known printers.

Could they have emigrated?

There is a Patrick Ardiff living in New York in 1900, and he is stonecutter from Ireland.
His wife is Kate

So could this be a brother/cousins etc of your Edward Ardiff, and Edward joined him in the US?

McClean, Kelly, Murray, Higgins, McAnulty (McNulty, Conalty, Kinolty), Morgan, Rafferty, McPolin (All Co Down, Ireland) Bowman, Hooper(Yorkshire)

Thank's Gaffy
i see your train of thought,i was recently looking for a twice widowed woman who's death is not registered i eventually found her burial in Glasnevin by her daughter in her first marriage name.
