Alexander Fisher, born Islington 1822
« on: Tuesday 27 March 18 19:41 BST (UK) »
Alexander Fisher was baptised at St Mary's Islington in 1822, a son of another Alexander Fisher and his wife Sarah Baker. Does anyone know anything about the parents, where they came from, etc? I would be interested to know! The younger Alexander was a portrait painter in south London, but sadly died in a Southwark Workhouse in 1892.

Did he marry? If so is father described as deceased on certificate??

This is quite complicated
Baptism
Alexander Fisher born 14 Mar 1822 baptism 29 may 1822 Upper St Independant Parents Alexander & Sarah

there is also Alexander James Fisher said to be born 14 mar 1822 baptism 1 Dec 1822 Pentonville St James Islington Parents Alexander & Sarah of Chapel St occ gardener

is this the same person - there is Alexander Fisher -wife Elizabeth (she was b Monmouth) children Alexander J and Elizabeth
This Alexander has middle initial J on some census
his occupation is painter & Glazier/ House painter/ Painter or Artist on Workhouse records

He was admitted to and discharge a few times from southwark workhouse - onetime he is describbed as destitute - sometimes he discharged himself - workhouse records describe him as painter then artist -married, Baptist

there is a baptism Charles Fisher 29 Feb 1824 (born 29 Feb 1824) St James Clerkenwell parents Alexander & Sarah -wonder if this is his brother??

marriages would help - probably non conformist

Suzard:  many thanks, and my apologies for not replying yesterday. The Alexander James Fisher born in 1822 was baptised twice, and I believe his brother Charles was, also! Probably the parents were divided between the Church of England and some non-conformist congregation. This AJF is the one who married Elizabeth (surname untraceable so far) who came from Monmouthshire. I have been doing research for someone in Streatham who is directly descended from all three Alexander Fishers!

What about the Alexander James FISHER who married Elizabeth PARRY in Monmouth RD in Mar qtr 1846.

They had an Elizabeth born Dec qtr 1848 in Wrexham, and an Alexander James born Jun qtr 1850 Lambeth. AJF was baptised at St Thomas Lambeth on 8 Oct 1850, father's occupation Artist. Ties in with later census records, although the daughter Elizabeth in the census is younger than AJF.

Eyesee.  Many thanks! especially for letting me know Elizabeth's surname is Parry. The 1861 Census says she was born at Dixton, Monmouthshire (well, it says Dixon, but it is Dixton really!). Maybe the Elizabeth born 1848 died, and a sister, born in about 1855, was named after her.
