George R White, born Bermondsey 1886

George R White was born in Bermondsey in January 1886. In 1915 he married Florence Fisher and they had five sons. In 1939 George and Florence are living in Sutton, and he died in 1966. Does anyone know who George's parents were?

Use the GRO online website to establish his mothers maiden name then look for a White marriage to that surname.

Have you looked for him on the 1891 or 1901 censuses to find his parents?  What was his middle name?  There is a George Robert White birth in June qtr 1886 on freebmd

Carole, many thanks for your reply. The R comes from the 1939 register. He had sons named Roland and Reginald, so one of those might be his middle name. As he was born in January 1886 I do not think he is the one born in Q2. I did not know the mother's maiden name could be discovered before 1911, so thank you for letting me know. That will be an enormous help, unless it is Smith!!

Hello. He lived in Camberwell from the time of his marriage in 1915, until at least 1930. I was sure he was born in Bermondsey, but cannot find the evidence in my notes!! He isn't the GW born in Paddington, and I know he was born on 23rd January 1886.

Are you quite sure the 1939 shows the name George R?

When doing a free search I can see a George ? born 1886, living in Sutton and Cheam M.B with Florence White but no George R.

I was mistaken! It is the death indexes for 1966 which give his name as George R White, aged 80.
