Help with 427 London Rd U.D. Please

I have a birth certificate which in the box where it says 'Where Born' it is '427 London Rd. UD'. I am presuming that is Croydon as that is where the birth was registered.
However that is not where the mother lived at that time. So that has me puzzled.

Can anyone tell me if that was a Maternity Home, a Private House or what in the 1920's or before please.

There does not appear to have been a 427 London Road Croydon according to the map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html#/Map/531511/167048/13/101329
No. 405 is on one side of Canterbury Road and No. 429 on the other.

There's a 427 London Road in Mitcham?
Mitcham was also in the Croydon Registration District.

What sub-district is named on the Birth Certificate?

Sub district of West Croydon
In the County of Croydon.

Then the address where born  says 427 London Rd. U. D.

I have looked at the map of Croydon which Stan suggested and there is a big hospital on London Road - I wonder if that had a number.

Judy doesn't state the exact date of the certificate (although mentions 1920's or before) but it seems from this site http://london-road-croydon.org/history/0002-street-number-renumberings.html that there was an extensive re-numbering in London Road in 1927. So it's possible that there was a number 427 before this date, which has now gone into oblivion. The site makes it clear that there are other strange gaps in the numbering of London Road.

It was 1925. So you may be right JenB it may have gone into oblivion around 1927. Thank you for adding that bit of information.

According to this link http://www.cleis.org.uk/cdb-4.0/node/1821 numbers 417 to 437 London Road lay between Leander Road and Headcorn Road.

They were renumbered 991 - 1011 London Road in 1926.

Not that any of that helps understand why the person concerned was born there  but at least you know where it was (I hope).

In 1904 the address of the Registrar, Sub district of West Croydon, was 364 London Road, Thornton Heath. The present address of Croydon University Hospital is 530 London Road. but it was 76 Eridge Road, and from 1939, 39 Woodcroft Road.

427 (now 1001) was built in 1922.

in 1922, a much more impressive line of houses(417-437) made its appearance along the stretch between Leander Road and Headcorn Road.
