Help with 427 London Rd U.D. Please

Thank you very much for all the replies.
So that clears the numbering up nicely.

This birth was rather a surprise as working the months out it came after the husband was deceased and couldn't be his. The other surprise it says on the Birth Certificate he was adopted.

We were wondering if 427 was in a maternity home or if it was at a relatives house.

I think there must be electoral rolls for that period, but don't know if you can find them for an address without the name of someone living there.

Electoral rolls are listed by address, rather than name!

Unless, of course, they have been digitised and sorted by name?

I have been looking but have found nothing for that address in the years around 1925.

I can't find any Electoral Rolls for that area at all on a well known Genealogical site. Maybe I am not searching correctly.

Don't think they're on there

They're certainly available at the British Library. If you change your thread title to include Electoral Register Lookup Please then someone may spot it

There might be some at Croydon Library. If they're open on Saturday, I'll ask what they've got

Croydon Local Studies has directories on shelves left of the entrance and electoral rolls in a long low bookcase towards the back of the room. Street/ward indexes to the ERs are in a lever arch (or similar) file in the latter bookcase.

They are open on Saturday. I may be there on Wednesday if Stevie can't make it earlier, but if the weather is fine, I'll probably go a-graving instead. Or as we now have the date and address, the staff would probably do a quick lookup free in response to an e-mail.

Just so you have the full picture the mothers name was Ellen Duncan Hawtin or Rees

Didn't have a lot of time in the end, but in 1925 to 1927 the electors registered at 427 London Road were William and Alice Johnson
