WHO was this Joseph Tackaberry? And where is mine?
« on: Wednesday 28 March 18 14:59 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am trying to sort out my Tackaberry relatives in Ontario before heading to Dublin next month to do research in the RCB Library.

My ancestor Nathaniel Tackaberry b. about 1818 married Margaret FENNELL in Ireland in 1844 per marriage bond indexes. His first son Richard THACKABERRY (spelled that way on register) was baptised in 1847 in Tullow, Carlow and then the family headed to Perth County, Ont in 1848. Nathaniel was said to be from Co Wexford or Carlow. These were from a small tight-knit group of staunch Irish Protestants.

I have found the family only in the 1861 and 1881 census records, I think Ancestry must have mistranscribed their names.

I noticed James, Joseph Tackaberry, Thomas, and John Tackaberry all living with Margaret FENNELL, their mother, in Bruce County in 1881. There's also a mysterious 9-year-old Jane Tackaberry whose identity is a mystery.

In tracking down Joseph Tackaberry, I found another mysterious Joseph Tackaberry who died in 1939 in Detroit. He is born, per his death cert, to William Tackaberry and Jane Mitchell in 1857 in Listowel, Ontario. I am really confused about who William Tackaberry is and where he ties in to my family, if at all. Listowel is very near where my Tackaberrys lived.

Additionally, there is a Jane Tackaberry living with Margaret FENNELL in 1881 in Eastnor, Bruce County. She's 9 years old and not a child of Nathaniel/Margaret. How can I identify her?

Any help, or anyone related to William/Jane who can chime in, appreciated.

(Note there were a host of other Tackaberrys in Leeds and Huron Counties, but they mostly emigrated 1810-1820 whereas my Tackaberrys head over in 1848).

William H Tackaberry born 1852 Listvill, (looks like Listrill on the image)  Canada - married 7 October 1891 Monona, Iowa - aged 39 years
Spouse Martha Burnside Monroe County iowa - aged 33 years  -
William's parents - Nathaniel Tackaberry and Mother Margaret Fernell.

This William appears to be the son of Nathaniel and Margaret.

Wonder if that is sub district Listowel - Perth Ontario  ???

Hi Sandra, who does that tree say her parents are? Nathaniel and Margaret did have a daughter Frances Jane but she died in 1867. They would be too old to have a child in 1872 (over fifty).
