Marriage records for Ramsden Street Independent Chapel, Huddersfield
« on: Wednesday 28 March 18 23:02 BST (UK) »
I am trying to check the data for the following marriage - on the 4th of June 1877, Thomas Jackson, a Farmer of Mill Bank Denby Dale was said to have married Martha Ann Sykes, a servant of ? Fancy? Hall, Almondbury at The Independent Chapel, Ramsden Street, Huddersfield.
This information appeared in a letter, but I am struggling to find proof of the ceremony, or any marriage records for Ramsden Street Independent Chapel.
I have tried The Local Studies Library and WYAS (Kirklees)
Please can you help?

In the absence of any record availability you would need to buy a copy of the marriage cert

Many thanks for your prompt response. The staff in Local Studies were surprised that the records for Ramsden Street Independent Chapel were not on their system.

Not all nonconformist chapels had their own marriage registers, so even though the building might have been registered for marriages to take place, the registrar would have had to attend in order to register the marriage.

In such cases, the chapel doesn't have its own marriage registers, and you can only get information from registers held at the local register office. The National Index of Parish Registers seems to confirm this, as it doesn't list any marriage registers at all for Ramsden Street.

Occasionally marriages were recorded at a chapel in an unofficial register, but there's no sign of one here.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson
