H.G. Rogers
« on: Thursday 29 March 18 16:53 BST (UK) »
Hello........I would appreciate some assistance. H.G. Rogers had a shop at 158 London Road north in Lowestoft,Suffolk  in the early 1900's. In his shop he sold postcards and Bonhams Auctions has a painting they sold which on the back has a label " H.G. Rogers picture framer and find art depot Lowestoft". Other references refer to his shop as an art gallery. I did not find a listing for him in a Suffolk trade directory for 1896.

Some postcards bearing the name on the back "H.G. Rogers, publisher Lowestoft" have postmarks of 1912 and they all appear to be pre WW1 postcards. A Lowestoft history website lists H. G. Rogers as a photographer but I doubt he was. I expect he had a shop where he sold postcards produced for him and that he had a gallery where he sold paintings and did picture framing.

I would like to find out his full name, the year born and died, and any information you can find about his business.

Thanks Suffolk sue

Doesn't quite seem to be the chap I'm looking for but I cant rule him out. If you can find a Henry George, Herbert George, or a Henry George Rogers perhaps there are other likely candidates. He will need to be a resident of Lowestoft or nearby 1900-1912 era at least. Can you find a 1911 census record for anyone at his business address of 158 London Road North, Lowestoft?

Lowestoft Journal 17 June 1911 records a J W Bond had the lease for 158 London Road North but it had expired. An auction was being held for the effects of Mt Henry Ward at that address.

1911 for J W Wade -

Perhaps H G Rogers did not move to 158 London Road North until after 1911
