I am trying to trace Mary MILNE aka Mary Hay MILNE who was born on 22 February 1875 Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She is the daughter of Agnes TAYLOR and Thomas MILNE who married on 13 July 1874 Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Agnes and Thomas MILNE had another child Thomas MILNE born in 1878. Thomas MILNE senior died on 18 December 1880, Old Meldrum, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Background:
Around 1882 Agnes MILNE came to New Zealand and married James Keith CRAIG on 2 April 1886 in Oamaru.
Agnes Taylor (b 1852) was the daughter of David Taylor and Margaret Henderson. Agnes' older sister Christian Taylor (b 1844 New Deer, Scotland) married in 1866 to John Taylor s/o William Taylor and Annie Meldrum. Christian and John Taylor and family came out to NZ on the ship "Auckland" arriving in Port Chalmers on 21 November 1874.
Thomas Milne came out to NZ c 1908. He did not marry and died on 13 October 1946 in Dunedin.
I do not know exactly when Mary Milne came out to NZ but possibly sometime between 1891 and 1896. I have found her in the 1891 Scotland census living in Tiffery Road, Longside, Aberdeenshire occ Dom Svt (unemployed) living with her uncle John and Aunt Ann Taylor. Then as a witness to the marriage on 16 December 1896 in Oamaru of Jessie Ann Meldrum Taylor d/o Christina and John Taylor and James Turpus. Her details are given as "Mary Hay Milne, General Servant, Kakanui". Mary is Jessie's cousin.
I next found a "Mary Hay Milne" in the 1896 and 1900 electoral roll for Otago - Waihemo as a Domestic Servant - qualification - residential.
An Ancestry public member tree suggests that Mary Milne married a George Marvin Mutch in 1897 in Wisconsin, USA - however this is not the one I am looking for. George married a Mary Hall Milne.
I have checked the NZ BDM Index - deaths. Using the ages I have eliminated all the "Mary Milne's". Using Archway I searched using "Mary Hay" and found 2 possible names "Harris" and "Williams". I checked these against the BDM Index and eliminated these as being too old, ie born before 1875. I have also checked the Waitaki cemetery records and not found anything relevant.
I have also looked on Familysearch but found nothing relevant or have I missed something?
Agnes Craig died on 30 August 1942, Waimate, Sth Canterbury. On her death cert only one child is given as living at the time of her death and this is a male (Thomas) so Mary is likely to have died sometime between 1900 and 1942 - but where?
Any assistance to locate Mary Hay Milne would be appreciated.
Thanks
Wendy
