We have very little to go on, Annie Doherty 26 arrived London to Brisbane 17/10/1910, Rippingham Grange, with Sarah Ann Doherty 24, both free passengers, both domestics. Sarah married George Dawson, Narrandera & have further info but can’t find anything on Annie. We think sisters, born Donegal, father William James Doherty, mother Margaret McLaughlin.

The girls could be cousins, or even unrelated, even though they were on the same ship.

Mick, I wondered the same. Ruth says she knows more about Sarah, so I assumed those names came from Sarah's marriage or death certificate, and now Ruth is trying to find out if Annie had the same parents? Jamjar's reply at #13 says not ....

The only Sarah Doherty birth I can locate between 1880 and 1890 in Donegal is Sarah Ellen Doherty in 1886, daughter of Thomas Doherty and Margaret nee Walker.

Wonder if Annie was a witness on Sarah’s marriage certificate, or if Annie was mentioned in Sarah Dawsons probate/deceased estate files

Adding: Just thinking, if this is the right Sarah Ann (Doherty) DAWSON, it seems unlikely that Sarah Ann and Annie were sisters, if Sarah Ann went by Ann (looking at NSW death). I doubt two sisters would both be known by the same name.

The death notice for Thomas is interesting as it states that he is stepfather of all but two of the children.

One of which appears to be Isa who was born NSW:

Her marriage: 20754/1940 WILSON Frederick William NICOLL Isabella McKenzie HORNSBY

Added: Have found marriages for the step-children with surname Doherty, so if this is the Annie who married in QLD in 1915 then she was not born Doherty.

Their father was Dennis:

So, I think it is safe to say that your Annie Doherty did not marry Thomas Nicoll in Qld in 1915.
