Good afternoon,

They may not have had royal in the title but were still a royal regt. 1st to 25th foot, pre 1881 titles, were all royal regts.

Leicesters were 17th foot, Leicester regt after 1881. All royal regts had blue facings after 1881not white as the man in the photo.

Added, Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regt were 4th foot. Again one of the royal regts with blue facings not white.

Good evening,

As far as militia go, yes, the militia battalions were a volunteer part of each county regt. Normally they are the 3rd and 4th battalions but that depends on how many regular battalions there are.

Volunteers wore different uniforms and while particular to the different counties were not actually part of the county regts.

Militia battalions can usually be identified by the austrian knots on the cuffs.
