upper Drumhallagh
« on: Saturday 31 March 18 09:54 BST (UK) »
Looking for the name of an old graveyard in the area of Upper Drumhallagh.
From childhood memories it was close to main road.
My Doherty family buried there and want to find it.

Also the name of the old Catholic Church in same area, it sat on hill. It was the family Church.

Many thanks for any help.

On the old maps there is a St.Catherine's RC church in the townland just below Legland, it is marked as Oughterlin on the oldest map.

Thank you Sinann a million for that.
It was in the 1950`s that I was there but the building and Oughterlin rings a bell!

On the modern maps I think I can see a graveyard near the church but the only one I can see on the old maps is a children's burial ground above Drumhallagh.
It's not easy to see maps on iPad and I have to go now.
I'll have another look later if someone hasn't found it in the meantime.

Thanks. What I do remember when visiting the graveyard as a chils is that it had very old stones, was overgrown and we passed it off a main road. I do not recall it being on Church grounds if that helps anyone. It had been the Doherty burial ground since 1800`s and poss before.
