I am sorry for the confusion I've caused by giving John Darton as a witness. I picked that up from a transcription of Sherborne marriages 1830-1849. The census information on the two John Dartons' looks promising. Thanks

Doesn't help with finding Jane's parents, but John DARTON (born c1810) was in trouble for arson in 1840. There are various mentions in the newspapers of the time eg:
Royal Cornwall Gazette,  April 24, 1840, Issue 3908 .

That is interesting. Things like that turn the names into real people.

Not sure which thread to post on now! Might be an idea to ask a moderator to merge the two threads?

Possible baptisms of DARTONS that relate to the 1841 census above:
Caroline Louisa - 3 Sep 1826 St James, Bristol (John and Ann)

Modified to add:
4 Nov 1813 - John   Plymouth

There are also these possible siblings:
14 April 1816 - James  Plymouth
20 June 1822 - Edwin John  Plymouth
3 Sep 1826  Eliza Ann   St James, Bristol
6 April 1828  Charles Henry   Temple, Bristol

(all from familysearch)

Thanks. I didn't mean to cause confusion but as Jane was born in Devon and married in Dorset I thought I'd cast the net wide. Merging the threads is a great idea as I'm also getting confused keeping up with all the marvellous replies!

Just adding that witnesses to this marriage were Charles PYE and Elizabeth LEE. (Elizabeth LEE also witnessed a few other marriages at Stoke Damerel around this time.)
